The New York Times has an editorial today about Anne Mitchell, a nurse in Texas, that tried to express concern about a doctor to the state medical board. She alleged that Dr. Arafiles delivered inappropriate care in six cases and had encouraged patients to buy an herbal supplement that he sold on the side.
The local sheriff, a friend of the doctor, obtained a search warrent to examine her computer and arrested nurse Mitchell for misuse of official information, a third-degree felony.
This case is bound to have a chilling effect on other nurses to report negligent doctors. What do you think?
